How it works

How many English words fit in a 60-second video?

At a natural pace of about 150 words per minute, roughly 130–150 English words fill 60 seconds. Slow, deliberate narration is closer to 130 wpm; an energetic delivery can reach 175 wpm.

How many Chinese characters fit in 60 seconds?

A natural Chinese narration pace is about 220–300 characters per minute, so 60 seconds holds roughly 220–260 characters. News-anchor speed can exceed 300 characters per minute.

Why count English and Chinese separately?

English is spoken word by word while Chinese is spoken character by character, at very different rates. Counting them separately and adding the two estimates is far more accurate for mixed scripts than a single blended rate.
